I had to learn about the real history of the US via outside reading. On that note, here are just a few great books everyone should read:

@William Springer not sure what school you went to but I heard nothing about the Red Summer of 1919, Tulsa massacre of 1921 or any hint at how police departments became the new arm of slavery after the Civil war- with some departments recruiting from the KKK. I even took AP American history and none of that was mentioned. None. Equally, no mention of wounded knee, sand creek or the trail of tears- all epic examples of a government practicing genocide. I hope it’s better today but my education was sanitized.

The truth would make the south look very very bad. And relatives of those who indulged in the slave trade and acquired riches, through the misery of other human beings, may have those riches taken from them. That is why they don’t want the truth to be told. But since it did happen, the disgrace that we humans are capable of perpetrating such oppression on another human being is damning, in more ways than one. To all not just children. They say, history repeats itself, learn the right lesson from history is essential, teach it with the right bent.

The lies about slavery and the Civil War have been around a long time. They were in my Texas history books.
We have lies In our northern textbooks too. I was taught that segregation was only in southern states… Mean while my town still has old buildings with extra doors and bathrooms. In Michigan….
