Local Prosecutor Seeks Creative Ways To Utilize Existing Laws In Fight Against Domestic Extremism

Mimi Rocha, District Attorney of Westchester County, NY, and a former Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York, spoke to NBC’s Joshua Johnson on the fight against homegrown, far-right extremism,
arguing local communities are the most vulnerable to hate crimes, which requires local prosecutors to be “tenacious and creative” in their efforts to combat hate crimes, including finding ways to prevent bias incidents before they occur.» Subscribe to MSNBC:

Local Prosecutor Seeks Creative Ways To Utilize Existing Laws In Fight Against Domestic Extremism

  1. Get rid of Sheriff Elections. Get prejudiced kaw enforcement out. Law enforcement should never be elected, they must be qualified.

    1. This is the dumbest comment I’ve read all year. Do you want the ability to pick a sheriff, or give that authority to a bribed politician?
Next you sheep will want the gov to pick your president.

    2. @Mister Hat Old Think. The whole bad apple thing might have worked 100 years ago when Officer Clancey was too free with his nightstick. But as we can see through cellphone technology, things are a lot worse. Unions protect workers. Unions represent workers with management.
Unions work for better wages , retirement benefits, and for safety for workers.
Police unions should have nothing to do with anyone who wears a badge and drags a woman out of her own car as she is smoking a cigarette after what— he said —was failure to signal a lane change. The badge was desecrated, the union, the municipality, and his family.
Unions should’ve drawn the line long ago—this is not what we defend. No more looking the other way. We have the internet. Start with police chief contact. Institute and implement ride with cops program. Citizens care, but how does anybody know it? Let citizens know what bad policing costs the taxpayer, from Karen responses to the ultimate million dollar lawsuit.

Don’t blame unions for representing as we know it. Blame them for representing those who would be called danger to the community, if no badge was involved. Cop who murdered George Floyd had a history. We don’t have to put up with this. What we have is not working.

    3. then we have to do the same with judges and prosecutors and since places like Portland use the mayor as the police ombudsman does that mean we have to get rid of mayoral elections? your idea has quite a few holes…

  2. “A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.” – Cicero (This is a warning ⚠️ from Rome. #wakeupamerica)

    1. Joe Biden and all the raging Feminists/Socialists are creating an environment that is making America susceptible to foreign invasion!!! If I was a foreign leader, I would view America as weak and gullible, and primed for the taking, thanks to the Liberal agenda!

    2. @Kvasir why would the plutocrats want private property publicly owned? A democratic republic is harder to control, which is why people like Trump want to minimize the amount of voices in our democracy. They’re actively seeking ways to throw out legally casted ballots and sowing doubt and division. Much like the quote says, he “rots the soul of a nation.”

    3. @Brian Nave that’s Biden’s doing and not the loser who is still pretending he won? The one who seeks to undermine democratic institutions and processes because his ego can’t handle reality? The liberal agenda is to address the pandemic and get the economy going by strengthening the working class. You think that’s making us susceptible? Marjorie, is that you?

    4. @Real Talk76 Blue states weakened the working class since virus. Freedom of speech is in decline thanks to the LEFT. Trump should be credited for vaccine contribution

    5. @Sam Harris no sir, none of that. You’re not gonna mask bad behavior and consequences for your words under the guise of free speech. You can say what you want but freedom of speech doesn’t mean I have to condone crazy talk. But civil liberties get restrained when they start to endanger those around them. January 6th is proof of how dangerous lies are. And you believe blue states weakened the working class? So, I assume the employment rate is super low in all red states and higher in all blue states?

  3. Trump lost the House in 2018, the WH in 2020 and the Senate in 2021 with the Georgia runoff. What a loser! When are republicans going to wake up to the fact that Trump has bankrupted the GOP just like he did 6 of his companies.

Republican Party is no longer the party of Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and Reagan, it is now the Extremist Insurrection Sedition Party, thank you Donnie.

    1. Yes, what possible benefit has the GOP gained as a result to selling out to Trump, Greene, QAnon, etc.? As a party, NONE. But individual politicians in rural, low-education areas have used the extremism in order to get political office.

    2. Oh don’t name Reagan, the dems hated him! stated “he is the mark of the beast” because his names letters were 666. I voted for Reagan 😊

    3. Joe Biden and all the raging Feminists/Socialists are creating an environment that is making America susceptible to foreign invasion!!! If I was a foreign leader, I would view America as weak and gullible, and primed for the taking, thanks to the Liberal agenda!

    1. You sheep are so scary. Antifa/blm actually attack American citizens in their cities. Proud boys only attack antifa.
None of you were calling for more gov authority when blm burned 23 cities.

    2. @Calvin Parish Let’s be accurate… Antifa/BLM didn’t burn 23 cities. They rioted, set fires, assaulted people, killed people, and did other damage in 23 cities. Basically an attempted left wing insurrection. But they didn’t completely burn 23 cities.

    3. @Brian Nave Funny. That’s exactly how foreign leaders have been viewing America for the last four years.

    1. @Hard Rocker – That’s weird. This is a first. Nazis invoking the Bible? Oh! You don’t know you’re a Nazi.

    2. @Ron Swanson You mean “Tenach ” surely ; you know as used by the financial terrorist who devestated milions of lives.

  4. Hey. We can have whatever opinions we want and voice them…but, we cannot incite insurgence! We cannot promote violent bias, which is against the law. When are we going after criminals, “politically” motivated or whatever?

    1. You are also not allowed to criticize a group of people who while responsible for several finacial crisis are never held accountable.

    2. Media constantly tells minorities they are oppressed and being hunted down by police… What did that lead to?

  5. She’s right. It doesn’t feel true. But just maybe one day the people in position of power will prioritize equality and decency like they have always claimed. Definitely not holding my breath tho. Appreciate women and people like her tho. Need more moral driven people like this. Accountability and morals are rare these days.

  6. Terrorism laws already exist. Domestic terrorism should be treated like any other form of terrorism and should be prosecuted as such with the same accountibility and consequences.

    1. @Trap Daddy The right-wing propaganda machine frequently accuses the far-left of inciting violence, yet right-wing extremists have killed 329 victims in the last 25 years, while Antifa and BLM members haven’t killed any, according to a recent 2020 study. (quoted from Business Insider)

    2. @Trap Daddy Seth Jones, a counter-terrorism expert, stated: “Left-wing violence has not been a major terrorism threat. The most significant domestic terrorism threat comes from white supremacists, anti-government militias and a handful of individuals associated with the ‘boogaloo’ movement that are attempting to create a civil war in the United States.”

    3. @Buff Straw The retired black police officers family that was killed by BLM riots last summer would disagree with your Incorrect statement

  7. Yes, very important. Prosecutors have always taken minor, non-violent drug offenses seriously. It’s time to treat Nazi acting-out the same way.

    1. Stop calling these people Nazis because Nancy Pelosi is actually behaving like a Nazi.
      – She called all Trump Supporters White Supremacists and terrorists was not censured by the democrat party.

      – She made a list of Trump Supporters. The Nazis did the same thing in the 1930s.

    2. @Ron Swanson “Nancy Pelosi is actually behaving like a Nazi.”
You mean, like when Nancy locked up those innocent kids in concentration camps down at the border? Yeah, that does seem very Nazi-like. No, wait, that was your Marmalade Messiah who did that.

    3. @Ron Swanson Not everyone that voted for Trump is a racist, but all you racists voted for Trump. Times up now, we know who you all are.

    4. @Ron Swanson Ironically, Trump’s supporters are worse Nazis than the.mentally impaired Trump. He is merely insane, but they are choosing to believe in him.

  8. Small predominantly white towns highly prone to good ole boy network, unfortunately that’s how hatred will fester and grow!!

  9. Can you imagine seeing Swastikas knowing your grandfather fought the Nazis and many lost their life fighting them?

    1. @Calvin Parish “What are you freaks doing to trump supporters?”
Good question. What, exactly, HAVE we done to you? Laughed at your absurd theories about stolen votes and Jewish space lasers. Jailed some violent insurrectionists who bashed a cop’s head in with a fire extinguisher. Hollywood made a movie about a fictional black nation, Wakanda, which really pushed your emotional buttons.

    2. @Calvin Parish “What are you freaks doing to trump supporters?”
Oh, I almost forgot to add the very WORST thing we’ve done to you. We politely asked you to wear a face mask in public, during a deadly pandemic. Which caused all you karens to fly into a rage, shouting and screaming and throwing a temper tantrum worthy of a 2-year-old, and literally spitting on us.

    3. My simple, unassuming father landed on D-Day and hunted the monstrous Nazis thru Normandy, France, Belgium, and Germany. Sorry, Dad, but nobody dreamed America would face a worse threat at home. Hitler’s German Nazis never had millions of traitors here to attack lawmakers in the U S. Capitol.

    4. That was a pretty far out there claim, specially the “swastikas in schools part. But yet there was no evidence presented. Sounds like a lot of BS.

  10. Dems passed domestic terrorist bill a year ago but Moscow Mitch has refused to even discuss it !! Wonder why that is ?!?

    1. Because Moscow Mitch supports them! If he didn’t he would do something about it!
Rand Paul didn’t support the Anti Lynching as a hate crime bill!
      🤔

  11. If i have heard correctly, the extreme position, is that only the original Constitution & Bill of Rights are valid to them.

  12. We need to go after groups that say.” If they don’t give us what we want we’ll burn this country down “

    1. @T. R. Campbell for quoting a black live matter leader. Hilarious.
Maybe they should go after Black Lives Matter for saying it and actually putting those words into action. For months

    2. @Wally Censorship I received a letter from Liz Warren, talking about all the fighting we need to do. Several paragraphs in her email she talked about the need to go out and fight. Is that not violent speech? Use that not commenting violence. If I now go out and punch a Republican, can I blame Liz? Perhaps so because that’s what we are accusing trump of doing.

  13. No, what it means is that the police leadership in Westchester knows how to tell people what they want to hear.
