Rocket debris expected to crash into Earth soon

The large Chinese rocket that is out of control and set to reenter Earth's atmosphere this weekend has brought about an alarming but not unprecedented situation.
Space debris has crashed into Earth on a number of occasions, including last year.
The good news is that debris plunging toward Earth — while unnerving — generally poses very little threat to personal safety. As Jonathan McDowell, an astrophysicist at the Astrophysics Center at Harvard University, told CNN: "This is not the end of days."
Still, the episode has fueled fresh questions about space debris, uncontrolled reentry and what precautions might need to be taken, if any.

  1. It’s crazy whilst we are all talking right now. It’s falling through the sky towards us.

    1. CNN need a pathetic story to made Americans fear. ‘China bad’. Americans warlord sore loser see a chinese going into space.

  2. I do hope my ex wife is not going to get driven into the ground by a chunk of metal hurtling into her with cataclysmic consequences

  3. “Poses very little threat to us”
*sedan sized chunk lands on Mr.Loobu’s house completely annihilating him*
“See we told you, one fatality, very little risk.”

    1. @Kernelpickle there was that Google hot air balloon with some kind of test equipment attached to it, that crash landed behind this guys house on the Navajo nation last year.

  4. I find it difficult to believe that they have no idea at all where this thing will come down, it is just math and I guarantee you they have a window where it will come down. Since they are not telling us what that windows is you can bet that it isn’t good for us.

    1. Nah…. if they’re rolling/tumbling it’s complicated. They would also need perfect information on the current state of like everything from the forces welds, bolts and whatever can stand. Perfect data on pressure and temperature in the upper and lower atmosphere. You need electronics on board and probably millions of costs to track it in such a perfect way. Then perhaps they can give you a “window”. But no one will spend that money since the chance that it will hurt someone is minuscule. An old US satellite fell down just a few years ago. NASA couldn’t really specify where the impact would take place. Like “the pacific”, but that like 1/4 of the planet. It could as well had hit South America or China too really…
There’s a much higher risk of dying from being hit by one of the many small (or big) meteorites that continuously falls down from heaven.

    2. It would be easy to track where it land if it weren’t in an unstable part of the atmosphere.

    3. @Ema Arredondo Come on now. With such a shortage of conspiracies, I think we should let them have this one.

  5. The only thing that’s making me feel a little better about this is that they will give 6 hour warning to evacuate if needed but who the heck is not worried about this thing!! lol!

    1. @Jo W. For correct and up to date information on this issue you need to watch the Sky. Sky News…..?! Not as accurate.

    2. I think the only ones worried about this is the U.S. , this isn’t news in Canada. We’re more pre-occupied with getting people vaccinations and trying to figure out how what’s happening in India is going to spread over here.

    3. I would think that if this was really a threat then one of our countries would shoot it down. If they can’t do that then we would all be in a lot of trouble if it was a nuke from another country that was coming to hit us.

    4. Right? I hope this doesn’t turn into a Donnie Darko situation and crash into someone’s house while they are sleeping.

  6. I’ve got this. I’ve been tracking it and it’ll likely land in my backyard. I’ve put out an old mattress, so it’ll be a soft landing.

    1. And where , pray tell , are you on this silly planet ? A Time Zone will do. Thanks from me and some neighbors .

  7. I pulled my 2007 Jeep Cherokee that needs brakes-tires, shocks, transmission, and a new windshield out from under the carport.. I know it’s a long shot, but…

    1. Don’t worry I put a bunch of Neodymium magnets on my roof. Please don’t forget my sacrifice.

  8. It is the first time I realize any rocket that is not reusable is called “uncontrollable rocket back to earth”.

    1. not necessarily. many just deorbit themself over the literal most isolated place on Earth, or just dump stages onto ocean or land.

    1. @Z M I hate ppl disgusting as u. Like keep ur own problems to ur damn self. She/he is spreading positivity and telling us to keep safe and ur gonna damn act like that? So damn immature

    2. @Z M You shouldn’t be getting mad at him/her, they aren’t the enemy. Blame the people who caused this.

  9. All I can say is thank you China for everything…u never fail to amaze me everytime..

  10. Back in the late 70’s, I had a t-shirt that said “I Survived Skylab.” Google it if you don’t get the reference.

    1. A Chicago radio D J did a parody to the music of ” Shattered” by the R. Stones , called SKYLAB. Nervously humorous at the time.

    1. G’day Ducky,

It’s like back in the 1970s, when they were selling
      Anti-Skylab
      Helmets ;
And some Town Council in Western Australia fined NASA for Littering….

Today they have a Skylab Museum there, trying to attract Tourists…(!).

      Such is life,

      Have a good one…

      Stay safe.

      ;-p

      Ciao !

    2. @WarblesOnALot
      Hey Warbles–
Anti-Skylab Helmets ; that’s like telling kids in the 50’s to just duck under their school desks to survive a thermonuclear bomb !

    3. @ThE DuCk

      Yes, indeed…

But that didn’t stop the “Entrepreneurs”…

And when Skylab failed to kill the Helmeted Preppers ; well, that worked for them, eh – what ?

Sheeples…, Ducky, are easy to motivate with induced Fear.

Kick one up the Arse and the whole Flock jumps in the Air & runs away in terror.

      They’re quite easy to fleece…

      Such is life,

      Have a good one…

      ;-p

      Ciao !

      Stay safe.
