@Extraneus That was the DC Metro Police (the District police)–the US Capitol Police (the Feds) apparently never requested National Guard support, until after the rioters breached the Capitol building.

@Lunar Dream That’s because they were pre-coordinated. There was only a “tiny” pre-coordinated request for National Guard support for this date (6 January), and it was made by the DC Metro police. It was for the National Guard to manage the Metro traffic points. The US Capitol Police (who protect Federal areas) didn’t ask for any support–they only had their “regular” component of Capitol Police on duty. Remember…the DC Metro Police CANNOT just go onto Federal property–they must be requested (because the DC Metro police is a municipal force, basically).

The General is telling the truth. If a regular National Guard force is going to be deployed (without prior notice, or being on “Alert” status), the time required is measured in several hours–not a couple of hours. If a National Guard force is in “Alert” status, then sure–they can be deployed/redeployed or re-tasked in minutes (if they are properly equipped (which includes communications), and have been briefed on their duties).
