@cdjhyoung I think the main reason that tRump choose him was that he was opposed to president Obama on the topic of relations with Iran, as commander of Central Command he knew about Iran’s undercover attacks. As SecDef he was trying to limit the damages of tRump incoherent (or Russian guided) decisions, until the withdrawl from Syria that gave a complete victory to Russia and Iran.
