So if you are under scrutiny your lawyer will tell you to keep your mouth shut, and you have the right not to testify. Pleading the 5th only goes so far. If evidence is overwhelming, you can absolutely be convicted of a crime.

If someone I thought the world of, admired, respected, believed everything he said (Jimmy Carter, say) and he took the Fifth in a deposition, I would at least entertain some suspicions that maybe he wasn’t the person I’d believed him to be. That maybe I should not blindly believer everything else he’d said, especially the ones that stretch credulity anyway. But I suppose this will make no difference to the Magas.
